Shrimp Creole

Shrimp Creole

If you want a hearty and delicious one pot meal, this is definitely it! Plus, it will make you feel like you brought Louisiana to your kitchen! Shrimp Creole and Shrimp Etouffee are different but similar dishes. They are both thick and hearty and served with rice but Etouffee is a roux based dish and Shrimp Creole is tomato based. The veggies in this dish are called the “holy trinity” which consist of bell pepper, onion and celery. Dice 1 green bell pepper, 1/2 yellow onion and 3 stalks of celery.

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan and add the diced bell pepper, onions and celery. Cook 5-7 minutes or until the veggies are soft.

Once the veggies are soft, add 1 can of tomato paste, 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and mix well.

Add 2 1/2 cups of seafood stock and stir well.

Season with 1 tbsp of onion powder, 1 tbsp of garlic powder and 1 tbsp of cajun seasoning and mix well. Add 3 bay leaves to the pot and cover with a lid.

Simmer on medium heat for 18-20 minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken. Remove the bay leaves from the pot. Season the sauce with salt and pepper (to taste).

Add 1 lb of raw shrimp and season with 1 tbsp of cajun seasoning. Stir and cover the pot and cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the shrimp are fully cooked.

Remove the lid and stir. Taste and make sure it is seasoned to your liking. Serve with rice and ENJOY!
